Re: Windmills on Ice Mountain - Gamesa Wind Turbines
France, Spain, and many other European countries have figured out these windmills are a joke, which is why they are being powered by up to 80 percent nuclear. Now if the US would just get a clue and stop being blinded by the $$$! I wondered where they were taking those blades too. Maybe the Alleghen...

Re: Windmills on Ice Mountain - Gamesa Wind Turbines
Speaking of "gargantuan industrial wind turbines", did anyone else see the wind turbine blades being transported along 550 in Warriors Mark yesterday? Wow, "Oversized Load" indeed. You truly cannot fathom their size until you see them in person, and I just saw the blades!

Re: Ice Mt gypsy moths
Good one my2cents! In all serious though, from everything I've read I think the benefits of spraying Bt to control gypsy moths far outweigh any potential risks. tf

Molded Expressions
In memory of David Auman 1975-2008 Molded Expressions By David Auman As a child I would go to the playground on rainy days when other children stayed home. The empty swings and slides stood against the gray mist background like sheet covered furniture in an empty house. I knelt on the muddy ground p...

Re: Ice Mt gypsy moths
In the US, EPA regulates label requirements for pesticides. EPA does not require pesticide companies to list inert ingredients, only the percent of the product that is comprised of inert ingredients, which are sometimes more toxic than the active ingredients. That's why its important use a pesticide...

Re: Ice Mt gypsy moths
Bt produces natural protein insecticides that have been used by organic farmers for five decades. On the other hand I found this on the Sierra Club Canada's web site: http://www.sierraclub.ca/national/programs/health-environment/pesticides/bt-fact-sheet.shtml B.t. Bacillus thuringiensis Fact Sheet G...

Re: What would you say to someone considering moving to Tyrone?
I don't live in Tyrone, but I would say the cost of living is fairly inexpensive; houses are cheap, and with the new highway we are starting to see it become a bedroom community for State College workers. Tyrone is an excellent school district, recently receiving nation-wide awards and recognition. ...

Re: Ice Mt gypsy moths
PA DCNR uses Bacillus thuringiensis (Bt) in its gypsy moth spraying program, which I believe is what Ag Air is proposing. Bt is nonchemical and is supposed to affect only leaf-eating caterpillars. The bacteria is sprayed on the tree's foliage and remains effective for about a week. Caterpillars inge...

Re: Windmills on Ice Mountain - Gamesa Wind Turbines
Honey bees are being imported from other countries to be interbreded with our own native species to produce certain traits, such as disease resistance. Pretty ironic, eh? Also, some beekeeper supplement their stock with imported honey bees. This is getting way off topic, but if you are interesting i...

Re: Windmills on Ice Mountain - Gamesa Wind Turbines
There are many theories about why the honey bees are dying off, and most likely it is a result of several factors. One pathogen in particular, Israeli acute paralysis virus (IAPV), has appeared in almost every case, making it a prime suspect as the cause of the collapse, as a marker for some other c...

Re: Fishing tournament
We may have to do that, my son loves to fish. For an eight-year-old who is very active, he will sit for hours fishing (as long as he gets a nibble now and then!).
Isn't there a fishing tournament coming up at Reservior park for kids? Anyone have any details?
