User pruning....

In an effort to reduce forum spam, or bulk automated user name registrations for malicious postings, I will begin "pruning" the user database on a routine basis.

If the following criteria are met, your account may be deleted without warning.

1. TOTAL post count remains at 0 for more than 30 days
2. Unresolving email address, or WWW link to site known for phishing
3. Your name is John Harlow :wall: Image

If I do delete your account by accident, I do apologize, but we have 364 users registered, and only 212 have ever posted, and only 140 have ever posted more than once.

Thanks, Rick

Rick...
Thanks for the E-Mail.. I totally agree with what you are doing.. I've seen the spammers on here and know we are in good hands with you doing the weeding out as it were... BTW I think item three on your list is a good idea too... We don't want too many Harlows around now do we??? :thumb:

Users purged....

As of today, I eliminated over 100 users/members who fit both of the following criteria:

1. Post count = 0
2. Registered over 1 Year ago

I apologize if I deleted anyone who regularly visits, but never post, but I am trying to keep the forum up to date and free of spam and hotlinking spoof.

If I did delete you, you are more than welcome to re-register, just try to make a post occasionally, that is why we have the forums.

YOU DO NOT HAVE TO BE A MEMBER TO READ OUR POSTS, they are open to be viewed as a guest, but your must register to post or reply to threads.

As the forum continues to grow, I will be routinely trimming the memberlist under the two, simple guidelines...

1. Members with zero post counts, who have been registered for over 6 months may be deleted.
This is primarily to combat spammers, or hotlink phishers.

2. Established members with no logins within 12 months may be deleted.
This is to keep the memberlist manageable, and succinct. If deleted, you may always reregister with the same username. Also, your posts will not be deleted.
(We currently have 129 users that have not logged in in over 12 months, so please login when you read posts, or your account may be closed in the next round of pruning)

Thanks, Rick

Pruning results:

Members with zero post counts, who have been registered for over 6 months.
43 Deleted

Established members with no logins within 12 months.
102 Deleted

We are now have 148 active members.

Remember, you don't need to create an account to read our postings, but if you do create an account, we ask two things.

1. Post something! Write a poem, talk about sports, or just throw your thoughts around.

2. Login at least once a YEAR! Even if it's just to say Happy Holidays!

If you username has been deleted, please do not be offended, you can simply sign up again!

My detailed reasons for keeping the forums pruned down are listed above. But the main reason if to keep spam, p*rn, and malicious accounts at bay.

Thanks, Rick

Ok, the I understand about the pruning, but for those of us who live out of town and don't have a lot to say, well, it can be a problem. Most of what you all talk about is local to you and not me. But I understand... And this forum is not one of the busier ones that I'm on, anyhow.

Well, at least this one should keep me active for a while. I do log in almost every day to see what's up.

Rob, you're gonna hafta help me out on here. Ok? :P

In understand, but heck, you've at least posted three times in less than a month, LOL, you're in no danger of getting pruned. I'm deactivating users that haven't said anything in over a year, or ever. Big difference. Thanks for logging in! -Rick :thumb:

Also, I think it deserves mention that I am aware Rick has also done A LOT of "behind the scenes" efforts lately - way beyond "User Pruning" - in order to protect us from persons who join only to post content that is NOT welcome here.

Rick is actually downplaying his efforts (modest guy that he is) for various justified reasons.

We should all thank him for his continuing actions to maintain the integrity and usefulness of this forum in an environment free of unacceptable intrusion by persons with no intent to contribute in an appropriate manner.

Wow the Tyronepa board population continues to dwindle...only 137. Any sense how many of us are from out of town? It would be nice to get a few more folks that live in the Tyrone area to get involved in the boards.
