The smile

I remember, as a child,
Walking the mile,
From the community pool,
To where my Mom worked,
To catch a ride home.

I'd walk past,
The Big Yank clothing sign,
To the factory's window-
Where the blast of hot air,
Would take my breath away.

Mom, sat at Her sewing machine,
Hands quickly moving in measured distance.
As She sat there,
Soaked in sweat,
She looked up at me,
and smiled.
(for Mom)
