Remember When?

Remember When?

When clouds were thick and hanging low,
It seemed the wind would never blow.
That pungent smell would permeate,
Everything we wore or ate.

When the whistle blew, all would know,
If it was time to come or go.
That smokestack rose above the town,
Gray smoke went up, black soot came down.

Many worked on that property,
Made great friends and some memories.
Some worked long until they retired,
Some laid off and some were fired.

The whole town seemed to prosper then,
I just can't help remember when,
I cross that bridge and round that bend,
I see that place as our old friend.
