Christmas is Near

Post by watcher »

Christmas is near...
I can tell even without snow on the ground.
For the decorations, trees, and lights are up.
Christmas carols are playing on the hall.
The shoppers are starting to look harried again.
Rushing busily from store to store,
Buying last-minute purchases.
And the cards and presents are being distributed
Among friends and acquaintances.
Christmas is almost here.
I can tell for the Santas are putting in appearances
At the malls, downtown areas, and street corners.
Their ho-ho-hoing is beginning to ring out
A little less merrily as the season approaches.
The carolers are making their rounds
With the typical choruses of " Here We Go a Wassailing"
Sounding slightly out of tune but appreciated
as they collect for Children's Hospital.
Christmas and its cheer.
The man at the corner is giving out pencils for free,
Instead of his nickel a piece,
They tied bows to his wheelchair.
The Vietnam veterans are collecting again
For Agent Orange casualties...
The Cancer patients are all going home,
Except one little boy, an orphan,
Who plays his drum alone.
And Ronald Reagan makes special broadcasts
On the importance of nuclear War,
As the carolers sing, "Peace on Earth,
Good will toward Men."
And 2000 years ago a little boy was born,
Who stands and walks it all,,
A tear in His eye.
Christmas is here.

Wrote this poem a LONG time ago, and yet, it still seems to ring true in some way...I may do a more recent one later. Hope you like this. :flag:
Sorry if you don't like the mention of old things, but it's kind of a blast from the past.
