1-1/2 lbs. lean ground beef
1 large onion - finely chopped
32 ozs. tomato puree
2 tsp. prepared yellow mustard (such as French's)
1 cup light brown sugar
2 T. apple cider vinegar
1-1/2 tsp. chili powder
1 tsp. celery seed
2 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. black pepper

Preparation
In a large skillet, VERY lightly brown the ground beef and onions. Break up the ground beef as fine as possible. Drain off fat and set aside. In a large saucepan, combine all the remaining ingredients and cook over medium-low heat for about 10 to 15 minutes. Add the browned ground beef & onions. Stir, then bring to a low-simmer for 2 to 2-1/2 hours, stirring occasionally. Or, place the sauce in a crockpot, set on low, for about the same amount of time. Sauce will thicken.

banksy, is that a typo or do you really add 4-8 oz. cans of tomato puree? Puree is so thick and the only liquid in the recipe is the 2 T. of vinegar. Just making sure before I try this one....sounds great!

Yeah, Puree, not paste... it's a little thicker than just tomato juice, but it's how we make it. If you like it a little thinner, you could do 16 oz of tomoato juice and 16 of puree. It simmers long enough that you can add some paste or water as needed.
