History Making Inaugaration

Post by watcher »

I just wanted to ask for thoughts about today's historic inaugaration. I enjoyed listening to the speech that Barack Obama made and do think we need changes in our country. How do you think this day might change our country? Any thoughts, comments?

Alright,

well since no one seems to want to go first, or isn't sure what to say, I'll start! I have to say, first of all, that the last eight years have had incredible things happen in this country happen that no one expected, or has known quite how to fix. I want everything to be resolved in the conflicts abroad, but sometimes have my doubts. Still, I am excited that the first African-American president has been elected, and I look forward to hearing his ideas. I try to stay balanced, but isn't always easy...I wonder if our country, especially our government, sometimes looks for people to find to take the fall for the things they can't change, and that bothers me. But, I want to be willing to hear all sides. :flag: :h

Okay, so now that I've started, does anyone else have nothing to say, or you're still thinking?

I enjoyed his speech as well. I listened to it while I ate an East End Hoagie and a bag of Middlesworth chips.
The hoagie was delicious although they went a bit heavy on the red pepper flakes.
The chips on the other hand were perfect - just the right amount of BBQ seasoning.
I wonder if President Obama is aware of the ongoing hoagie war in Tyrone?
If anyone can stop it he can.
I think I'll mention it on the comment section of his blog.

The sarcastic:

This moment in history is going to change the world. Barack Obama is Christ-like. With him as president of United States of America, the world will finally come together as one. He is going to bring forth that peace that passeth all understanding. He represents all that is good and as someone said last night in an interview...Finally this country will be blessed with granduer as never before. I agree with Mrs. Obama...for the first time in my life I am proud of my country. I honestly don't know how we've made it to 2009 without him at the helm. East End hoagies or Mac's hoagies for that matter ARE not even worthy of eating until Barack says so.

The Pessimist:
Nothing ever changes. It does't matter who is in the White House what will be will be. We're on a sinking ship. I'll bet Zapatista only got a half carton of chocolate milk.

The Optimist:
Our future is bright. Dreams are coming true. We will see change and it's all good. Zapatista may have had too many red pepper flakes for his liking, but thankfully they can be saved and used at another time.

The Truth:
I think Obama may be a good man and possibly a good leader. The radical supporters scare the hades out of me. So does the hoagie war.

Excellent points, everyone! I believe he has the makings of a good leader as well, although I think the view of the realist is more my line:

No one is perfect, but if we all are willing to work at it, we can fix what's broken, and move on, and stop covering up the problems with politics, and passing the buck!

Incidentally, you guys are getting me hungry for another EE hoagie, or Mac's, if I could ever find it! I'll have to try to sneak in some time quietly, and avoid any presidential hopefuls, or other celebrities! :w

Okay...sorry that I'm commenting again on this so soon, but I did want to qualify something. I am upset about hearing that Barack Obama has increased and approved funding for abortion overseas, and is not willing to think through the repurcussions of that decision. Do an entire group of citizens actually have no voice at all? Apparently so, and that one thing does break my heart, I believe life in every aspect should be supported. That is one soapbox I will stand on....hope you understand. :banghead:

I am also not impressed with closing Gitmo without knowing where to send the terrorists...and NO Jack Murtha, we don't want them in Pa. His allowing payment for abortion overseas is horrendous and will lead to FOCA to be approved. His stimulus plan will not work, he lowering our protection from terrorists and leading our country to socialism.

I appreciate the symbolism of this historic inaugaration, BUT I do not think it is good to focus solely on his race. The press also is not objective and act like he is the messiah. I feel our country is not going to be better under him.

How does his stiumlus plan differ from Bush's? Can we at least give him the benefit of the doubt for 2 weeks.

I really wish people would quit calling it a stimulus package instead of what is really is. Plain and simple BAILOUT! Give a man a fish and you will feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish and you will feed him for life. As for Obama, I personally do not trust the guy. There are way too many unanswered questions about him. Like where was he born? Where are his Transcripts? How did he pay for those high end schools? Why does he have 5 AKA's? Why would he support his cousin Raila Odinga (Member of the Orange democratic Movement) in Kenya? etc........... This is The United States Of America not Americas as some people hope it to be. And I for one am not ready for "Change I Will Believe In."

Personally, I feel somewhat bitter.

My animosity towards immigrants and NAFTA is equaled only by my enthusiasm for hunting and high powered rifles in general.

I think what we're witnessing here is the beginning of the end times.

... so I do.

The stimulus package is nothing but big government spending and is loaded with pork..the Dems pet programs. Now it may cost over $1,3 trillion. If you look at the bill you will see it for what it is. I like to call it the Pelosi, Reid, Obama Debt bill. It isnt going to do anything for our economy quickly and the money wont even enter the system for 2 years.

If the government wants to create jobs, they need to cut taxes on small businesses. They are the ones who hire..and they get taxed the most. This recession will correct itself..and many economists has said it will.

So where were you when it was 800 billion that the Republicans wanted. This is no different... and neither are smart plans. Want to boost the economy, stop all Federal income taxes for 1 year... which is about 1.2 trillion.

I was against the TARP plan and all of these spending plans. Trust me..Im not happy with republicans either. Congress is not representing the people nor are they listening to their constituents. We cant spend our way out of this. I do like your plan and that would work. Definite stimulus there. I'm not trying to be argumentative, but the Congress is not following the Constitution, they are trying to nationalize the banks, the car industry and next will be bailouts for failing newspapers, can we say Pravda. Socialism does not work.

As for where have I been..Ive spent the past few years contacting my Senators, Reps and Congress to voice my opinions. They are sick of hearing from me, I'm sure. I am not the only one against this plan..there are Dems and Reps against. Economists are against it. I do not think it does us any good to borrow money from countries who hate us..China, Saudi Arabia, etc.
