I can neither confirm or deny that unless money changes hands.

Misplaced Tyronite living in the Midwest

Post by paulahoneycutt »

Hi. My name is Paula (Hileman) Honeycutt. I'm from the TAHS class of '95. Since graduating, I've been busy traveling the world while serving in the US Air Force. Currently, I live outside of St. Louis in a town called Belleville, Illinois.

Tyrone is a small town and unappreciated by many, but being away for over 10 years had made me see the many positives central PA has to offer. No where else in the world can such wonderful food be offered. I really miss DelGrosso sauces, Gardner's candy and Middleswarth chips.

I like to log on occassionally to keep posted on my home town. I wish nothing but the best for the town of Tyrone and its residents.

You must be stationed at Scott AFB?

If there are still some "stomped bootprints" on the roof of the Officer's Club back there - some of them are probably mine...

Thank you for your service, Paula. I retired in '99, so we may have unknowingly crossed paths during that overlap of time.

I did knowingly run into a few fellow Tyroners and folks I knew from neighboring areas during my service. Most notably, John Fleming (went to school with him in underclassmen years of the Class of '73 and was active with the Citizens Fire Co) and I ran into each other often while stationed at Shaw AFB (where I retired out of).

The most interesting was when I went to Recruiter School. When I first arrived and took my pre-assigned classroom seats, I found myself sitting at a 2-person table with Bill Kirkpatrick. I'd known him, his brother, and his sister during my Tyrone years - and my Grandfather had watched/scouted him for his baseball skills. We subsequently served in the same Recruiting Squadron for 4 years.

Have you run into anyone from Tyrone during your military travels?

Not me - I wore a beret and either woodland, and later desert, BDUs most of my career. Plus, my first 6 military years were active duty and reserve Army before going 16 more years Air Force...

I agree about John. If I remember right, he retired about a year or so before I did (I would have stayed in longer, but service-connected disability said "enough is enough"). I don't remember whether John was returning back to the Tyrone area, staying in Sumter or otherwise in South Carolina, or elsewhere afterward.

Beachbiker-
Yes, I am stationed at Scott AFB! I haven't met anyone here from Tyrone but when I was stationed at Mountain Home AFB, Idaho, there was another Tyrone alum stationed there. She graduated in '91 or '92. Her name was Becky and I just can't remember her last name. It was so comforting to find someone else from my neck of the woods.

Another strange thing happened since I've been at Scott. One of my co-workers was reading an article in the base newspaper about a local fire chief who had recently passed away. She thought it was interesting because it said he was from Tyrone, PA. Since I talk about home so often, she knew that was my hometown. Once I'd read the article myself, I learned that a man named David Little (who was born and raised in Tyrone) had been the fire chief on base for years. I thought that was just a crazy coincidence. I wish I had met him before he passed.

You retired from the USAF? What career field did you serve in? I'm currently an Aircrew Life Support tech.

Hi everybody. I'm new to the board and thought this would be a great thread to introduce myself. I'm Penny. I was born and raised in Altoona (class of 94). Married my husband in 95 (Tyrone, class of 93). We've gone on to add five more to Tyrone's population. No, we are NOT trying to keep up with the Lewises...we are done...I think (knocking on wood...)

We bought our home here in Tyrone 2.5 years ago. I love this town. I love that I can make a 2 second trip to the video store and manage to wave to atleast 5 people on the way and back. :) I love that I always know someone in the grocery store (unless of course I'm yelling at one of my kids...and then I'm slightly embarrassed). This is a great small town. Of course it has its problems like any other... but it's got so many positives. It's full of Christians actively making this place better (shout out to the Kilmartins, Kosoglows, Walks of Quest Haven, Community Worship Center and COGS) There are great programs for my children: basketball thanks to Luke Rhoades and George Gripp and soccer which started with the Raabe's vision and is growing in its own right.

I could go on and on listing the positives but then I'd have less time to read the hilarity that is this board. (LOVE the comment about having a Mother's Day parade...that cracked me up...I've noticed that little 'issue' too and it saddens me)

Enough for now...

Oops - I missed this question way back when, and didn't see it until the thread got "bumped".

In case you are still on the board:

I served in many different career fields over the years, some related, some not.

As far as the Air Force career fields - I was mostly in Intel, Security Police/Security Forces, Recruiting. I was also an IDMT (Independent Duty Medical Technician), plus did a lot of Instructor and Instructor/Trainer duty (QA/RM, SA/BC, Firearms, AntiTerrorism Trainer/"Aggressor", etc) and was a Quality Facilitator.

Terri (Whitsel) Light -class of 1986
Hubby Dwight David Light -class of 1984
Married in 86 ---20 years this November --
3 kids, Angel is 17, Heather is 16, and Jesse (only boy) is 14.
Angel was a cheerleader for quite a few years, but quit last winter -works part time at OIP and drives (stay of the sidewalks). Heather did a stint with the colorguard, and was in the pit for the band, Jesse plays soccer for high school now, so Dave does not have to coach anymore.
Dave works at Mead in Alexandria, and I work at Mutual Benefit Group in Huntingdon (formerly Swigarts).

My sister Diane was class of 88 and works for a part of MBG --the Carriage House, she married a Huntingdon native -
