This was on the Altoona Mirror website:

Tyrone center closing

By Greg Bock

TYRONE - The Tyrone Social Center is closing its doors.

"As of March 1, 2006, the Tyrone Social Center is no longer under the possession of the Tyrone Community Partnership," the nonprofit organization said in a written statement.
The partnership took on the building, built by the now defunct Citizens Volunteer Fire Company, in June 2004.

What is going on?

And the second part of that question is "Will this affect the Tyrone pa dot com website which is housed in the Tyrone Social Center?????" and if so how?? Are you going to have to find new Quarters for the website equipment??

LOL...

Lemme see if I can wrap this up without getting a hand cramp from typing...

The Tyrone Community Partnership purchased the building about a year and a half ago for two reasons, keeping it open for the community to use, and our own use for the partnership (dinners, storage, office, etc.)

The Tyrone Community Partnership was formed from the Tyrone Main street program around 2002/2003. It’s goal was to raise awareness and funds for “downtown” development and enrichment. We actually wanted to focus a little broader, and offer other goals to the community, like park development, events, dinners, and teen activities. The Citizen’s Social Hall seemed like a way to help facilitate that process. We could use the building as a home for our events, rent out office space for extra income, and use the Social Hall for community based events, or personal rentals.

We knew that it would take at least a year to see real progress in rentals (weddings, parties, etc.) and were prepared to make a run at it. We initially held dinners, dances, and even Bingos to keep the money coming in. (The Bingos never really panned out, and we stopped having them after about six months, after attendance was routinely below 20 players.)

We eventually had numerous routine renters/patrons...

*Josefik’s Korean Tang Soo Do (Moved in after YMCA closed)
*Open Door Visions (Moved in after Hurricane Ivan said hello to our other office in 2004)
*Salvation Army (Moved in after their local office closed)
*Weight Watchers
*Greater Grace Fellowship
*WIC (one Wednesday/Month)
*Tyrone Community Players (Rents storage)
Joshua House (While they relocated into their new location across the street)
Yoga Classes

(*current tenants)

But at the end of the month, our bank balance was roughly where it was at the beginning of the month (if we were lucky)

Reliance Bank did everything they could to help us in the purchase of the building. As time moved on, we found it more difficult to keep up with payments, insurance, utilities, maintenance, etc. It became clear around the turn of the year that we would not be able to keep up with it all.

The Tyrone Community Partnership will now look for other locations for it’s signature events, and try to pull itself up by it’s bootstraps.

As for the current tenants (most are listed above) we will need to find a new location before the end of April.

As for tyronePA.com.... No, our website is in NO danger whatsoever. Our web server resides in another State altogether. What may become interrupted is the routine updates while we pack up the office, yet once again, and move to a new location. HOPEFULLY this will be last time for a long time. For those of you who know us, you know that we have relocated this business at least four times in the past five years. I’m looking forward to finding us a permanent home here in Tyrone!!!

Onward to Studio #6!!!!!!

Looks like the "Citizens" curse is still alive and well in Tyrone.

I get the impression the the Citizens went progressively downhill after I, Robbuck, and a few other of our discussion-board participants left the membership rolls over the years...
