Re: Name That Tune
really like this ballad, and I was rewatching this movie tonight, which I love, and thought I'd post it. Love the words, and thoughts, anyone know it?
Lay down
Your sweet and weary head
Night is falling
You have come to journey's end
Sleep now
And dream of the ones who came before
They are calling
From across a distant shore
Why do you weep?
What are these tears upon your face?
Soon you will see
All of your fears will pass away
Safe in my arms
You're only sleeping
What can you see
On the horizon?
Why do the white gulls call?
Across the sea
A pale moon rises
The ships have come to carry you home
And all will turn
To silver-glass
A light on the water
All souls pass
Hope fades
Until the world of night
Through shadows' falling
Out of memory and time
Don't say
We have come now to the end
White shores are calling
You and I will meet again
And you'll be here in my arms
Just sleeping
What can you see
On the horizon?
Why do the white gulls call?
Across the sea
A pale moon rises
The ships have come to carry you home
And all will turn
To silver-glass
A light on the water
Grey ships pass
Lay down
Your sweet and weary head
Night is falling
You have come to journey's end
Sleep now
And dream of the ones who came before
They are calling
From across a distant shore
Why do you weep?

Re: Name That Tune
Annie Lennox....... who I might add....just gets better with age.
Here's one for ya...
May God bless and keep you always,
May your wishes all come true,
May you always do for others
And let others do for you.
May you build a ladder to the stars
And climb on every rung,
May you stay ...,
May you grow up to be righteous,
May you grow up to be true,
May you always know the truth
And see the lights surrounding you.
May you always be courageous,
Stand upright and be strong,
May you stay...
May your hands always be busy,
May your feet always be swift,
May you have a strong foundation
When the winds of changes shift.
May your heart always be joyful,
May your song always be sung,
May you stay ....

Re: Name That Tune
Oh, I like this! Although I don't think I would have guessed this person did this song...because I think I've heard someone else do it, but now I can't remember who! I'll leave it up for grabs, since I keep googling because I can't resist...

Re: Name That Tune
Was waiting hoping someone else would answer the tunes... couldn't stand it anymore, have to add My 2 Cents... I know the answers without cheating, LOL. Watcher, yours is the "Lion King." Something To Say, yours is what I wish to be, "Forever Young."
Re: Name That Tune
My2Cents!
Hey! I know Forever Young is right, which I completely agree with you about, but not apparently in this life, , however, mine is by Annie Lennox as Something to Say said, but the title is "Into the West". It was the song that ran through the credits at the end of Return of the King in the Lord of the Rings...which is my all time favorite movie series! :thumb:
Great job guys! :w

Re: Name That Tune
Starry
starry night
paint your palette blue and grey
look out on a summer's day
with eyes that know the
darkness in my soul.
Shadows on the hills
sketch the trees and the daffodils
catch the breeze and the winter chills
in colors on the snowy linen land.
And now I understand what you tried to say to me
how you suffered for your sanity
how you tried to set them free.
They would not listen
they did not know how
perhaps they'll listen now.
Starry
starry night
portraits hung in empty halls
frameless heads on nameless walls
with eyes
that watch the world and can't forget.
Like the stranger that you've met
the ragged men in ragged clothes
the silver thorn of bloddy rose
lie crushed and broken
on the virgin snow.
And now I think I know what you tried to say to me
how you suffered for your sanity
how you tried to set them free.
They would not listen
they're not
list'ning still
perhaps they never will.

Re: Name That Tune
That would be Vincent by Don Mclean
:fogey: Now try this one
I saw her sitting in the rain
Raindrops falling on her
She didn't seem to care
She sat there and smiled at me
and I knew (I knew I knew I knew)
she could make me happy

Re: Name That Tune
Ahhh, to both of you above... good 'ole memories of the 60's... I knew the answer to both songs... but, I'll let someone else take a shot on Robbuck's.
I had a phrase going thru my mind the other day and for the life of me I cannot think of the song... does anybody know the song that contains the words; "his bow tie is really a camera." Is it Mrs. Robinson putting it in the pantry with her cupcakes ??

Re: Name That Tune
Answer to Robbuck--The Cowsills, "The Rain, The Park, and Other Things"
My2Cents, "his bowtie is really a camera" is from Simon and Garfunkel's "America" which was on their album "Bookends", the same album that Mrs. Robinson was on.
Wow, you both brought back a LOT of memories. Thanks!
