State Budget Woes...Multiple Member Identities, et. al.

Post by Rick »

Now, most of you that have been around for some time, know that I rarely make a post concerning anything remotely political. But as a lover of our state parks, my feathers have been ruffled.

In case you aren't aware, today, PA closed state parks, museums, and what they consider non-essential services due to the lack of an approved State Budget.

You can read more here

Now, I'm sure someone will be more than happy to correct me on my next statement/question, but believe me, my intent was to start conversation, so consider it more of a editorial statement.

Can someone explain to me how State Parks, Museums, Driver's License Centers are considered Non-Essential, and PLCB state stores (liquor stores) are considered essential? For that matter, the above article also mentions the following...
Gamblers and employees of the state's five slots parlors got a reprieve when a judge granted a request late Sunday by casino owners to remain open, at least until a Tuesday hearing.
Now don't get me wrong, I love my Jack & Coke, but I would rather have my state parks back open and running.

Just my 2¢...

Well, Sir i believe if you look at the bigger scheme of things you'll find that the parks and such DO NOT create revenue. Now you can argue that the Driver's license centers do, but they are available on-line, therefore not so much lost revenue. That would be my best explanation but if someone's got a better one throw it out there!! :stick:
BTW your sign up here above is a dead end.. Sorry

Fixed my sig, thanks, I'm actually getting ready to upgrade.

And just to point out something, I never mentioned the word "revenue", only "essential". I know those words are probably synonymous to many government agencies, but are unrelated in my vocabulary. :thumb:

I think the "shut down" of government is a good thing. Parks are there even if they are not "manned" by anyone. No $$$$$ is being spent. NOW there is a good sign.

Has there ever been a barricade constructed that Ray I and a chain saw or a decent pair of cable cutters couldn't handle?

I have a gut feeling that some "deal" was made, and/or, promise made, with the implimentation of wind farms in the state of Pennsylvania.... and that's why he has to have a "yes" vote on the energy issue. All and all... the wind farms are for the birds.... I mean that literally.

Rick I agree with you. This whole situation was pathetic and Rendell should be ashamed of hisself. Now today he has the nerve ( on news down here) to say they have to come up with a way to make up for the lost revenue from mondays disaster that he created.

Moved from another thread...
My2Cents wrote:While my potato salad is chilling for this afternoons picnic.. I have one question to ask, I hope one of you can answer it and set me streight on the subject, for it is really bugging me... This has nothing to do with being Republican or Democrat... nor, does it have anything to do with liking, or disliking, Governor Rendell.
I just don't understand, why, because of the "Budget Crisis," and, if the legislators don't approve the state budget by Saturday.... 25,000 state employees will be told to stay home next week and not be paid ?!?!
The impression I am getting is; If the PA Senate doesn't play the game and approve of everything that he wants, then he's just gonna' take our toys away, break them, and have it his way!! Am I wrong for thinking this way... can he do this?? Some of those toys are biggies and will effect us all eventually !!!
In no way am I into politics, and, I know you can't fight city hall... I was just wondering about this for my own satisfaction.

Rick...
Were we talking about potato salad?
I'm confused now.
Lady Bird Johnson... Dead or Canadian?

Speaking of potato's, my wife made her specialty for supper this evening.

She takes a small scoop of mashed potato and wraps it in dough, sort've like a ravioli.

After they're cooked she smothers them in onions and hot pepper flakes.

As she's serving them out she hurls insults at me and always ends with the phrase, "There Poindexter, there's your friggin East End Perogies. Enjoy."

MG - Lady Bird has bought the farm.

Maybe your wife could use a little more tenderness and compassion, everyone has their bad days, or maybe she's just needs some love too.

I read in a news article that they served pierogis during State Budget deliberations. Apparently their one of Ed Rendell's favorite foods. I hope they weren't Mrs. T's - they are sooooooo bland.

From your post, am I to understand that East End has begun to sell pierogis ?
