As a member of the medical community myself, as a Certified Medical Assistant, I do not get to work in the hospitals, however, I hear all of the complaints in the office from disgruntled patients, and most of ours go to Altoona! I lived in VA before my family moved back home to Tyrone last summer. I lived in Virginia Beach, which is one of the largest cities on the east coast. We had problems with our hospitals too, huge lawsuits at Children's hospital and Sentara Hospital, which is the larges health care system in Va and NC. Everyone gets sued. That is why we are required to carry insurance. I do not know what happened at Tyrone Hospital since I left, but I will say this, my step mom was admitted there three months ago and received excellent care. I have utilized the ER and have received excellent care. I used to volunteer there, a long time ago, and yes it has changed a lot since then, however whether we are talking about the hospital or just Tyrone itself, every town has problems and that is just a fact. I lived in several huge cities and smaller areas, as my husband is active duty military, so we have moved a lot. Even the military hospitals had problems. I think we should all state our opinions b/c that is the point of this board, however, I think we should be respectful of everyone and what they do for a living. Some posts on here are hitting below the belt and that is just not right.
Tyrone Pride and Concerned Nurse, keep doing your jobs b/c I can tell you this: Not everyone can cut it in the medical profession, it is hard and a lot of work, and for those who have nothing nice to say, I would like to see them try it!
Pup, I am sorry about your mother. My condolences. I don't know what the situation was, nor will I ask, but again, my condoleces. I know it is not easy to lose someone we love very much. God Bless and I hope you will let go of some of your anger, just for your own personal well being.
I am hoping Tyrone can turn things around, but we have to get the positive stories out there to help them out, and stop focusing on the negative all of the time. I love this town, I have lived practically everywhere, and I can tell you, the grass is not always greener on the other side. Take pride in Tyrone as a community and support our hospital.
