Bilo's high prices

Post by speakerofthehouse »

Over the years prices of everything has been going up. This is largly due to the fact of higher shipping costs because of the increased gas prices. Except when you compare the prices of bilo(or should i say bihi) and Martins there is no comparison. I do admit Martins too has gone up in price too, but that is only because they have to match that with the higher transporting food costs. Bilo on the other hand has always been more expensive especially now that they have no competition. I know full well that they could drop their prices dramatically and still make a nice profit off of us. The only time i do any shopping at bilo is when i am only picking up a few items. Other than that i do all of my large grocery shopping at Martins. Even though it costs more in gas to drive to Martins compared to Bilo I easly make up the difference in the price of food costs. Not only do i at least break even, I believe that it would be fare to say that i actually save at least $15-$20 dollars by shopping at Martins even with the cost of gas included. I believe that we Tyroneians should set up a few days where we BOYCOTT buying food at Bilo. Maybe when Bilo doesn't get any business they will finially set up REASONABLE PRICES!!! Please tell me what you think and hopefully we could get this organized.

Bi-Lo has died in many other towns and cities in PA, yet somehow the one in Tyrone survives. Another mystery. I've always hated that Bi-Lo. To me, it has always appeared dirty and the food rarely, if ever, fresh.

I agree100 percent Bucktail !! I would say more.... but, I won't !! What is so sad is that there are so many people in "the area" without any transportation... that's the only place they have to buy groceries  .

As an employee at Bilo, I would like to inform you that "Bilo Foods" Does NOT set their prices. All prices at bilo stores are set prices from Penn Traffic out of New York! We have no control over the pricing of anything. At least Bilo gives employment to people of Tyrone! I for one am glad we're still open and we at least provide excellent custumor service.

I agree that it is nice to go into Bilo and be helped and be treated like a person and not just another customer. The folks there are nice and courteous..Helps to keep our nice little hometown feel. Sure you can spend $10.00 in gas to save $20.00 and lose a hour of your day fighting traffic and traveling to the stores mentioned above. I'll stick with Bilo.

Fighting traffic to get to Wal-MArt in Altoona. All 45 seconds of it at the exit ramp.

Nothing like some of these other store's.
I hate fighting that traffic to get to Wal-Mart,it's awlful anymore to even get to the darn store up there.
Football traffic make's it even more a nitemare.
Of course you'd have to live here to understand that one.

I do my big grocery shopping at Wal-Mart and pick up my odds and ends and whats on sale at Bi-Lo... Sure I hate the check out at Wal-Mart but I never have trouble getting to the store.. I might have to park a little far up in the parking lot but hey it doesn't hurt me to walk a few extra steps. I have to shop Wal-mart to be able to feed my family... I have a son in Juniata College, every penny counts these day!!! The money I spend at Bilo all adds up in the end..

Well if you shop smart you can save money at Bilo too. Anytime you go to Walmart add at least $15.00 to the bill for your vehicle expense (.48 per mile).

If you have to make the trip to Altoona anyway it doesn't cost the extra!! I mean come on there are some things in Tyrone you just can't purchase. If I really think about it the amount of money I save going to Wal-mart probably equals out the gas I would spend with the amount I would spend at Bilo (if that sentence makes any sense!). I think the amount I spend at Bilo helps them stay in business and the amount I spend at Wal-mart helps me be able to pay the rest of my bills! I support "supporting" Tyrone businesses... but I still have to make the trip to Wally World!

What about shopping at Save A Lot? Sure everything there is not name brand but it taste just as good and it is A LOT cheaper!! I shop at BiHi when they have a good sale or if I am in a hurry and don't feel like running to Save A Lot. I also shop at Martins and Walmart. I use a lot of coupons and I don't run to Altoona unless I have a large shopping order plus in the need of other items. I usually get together with somebody else who needs to shop and we car pool to save even more. Have you noticed that the Dollar General and Family Dollar also sell grocery items? They are cheaper also.
I don't like to go to Bilo anymore than I have to because that manager is not very friendly. At least when Ray was there he knew every person that came in by name and if he didn't he came over to see who you were. Ray even knew the kids names that came in. Yes, the clerks are friendly and nice but that man could use some lessons!! He even looks away from you when you try to say hi to him. How rude!!

I would go to Bi-lo any day over Martin's meat department...the only time I've had bad meat in my house is when I bought it from Martin's... never again, I'm sticking with Bi-lo. They may not have the selection of Martin's but a least the food is not going to kill me. haha
