Re: Greg Ray Dismissed

Since the Mirror doesn't post every story that runs in the paper online, the most two recent Greg Ray stories (Tuesday, March 3 and Thurs., March 5) aren't online. Since it pains me to see WTAJ used as a source for what is going on in the area, I'm posting my raw - that is, unedited - accounts. Also ...

Re: Guard Deployment

Yes, I checked my facts. It's more of an issue of terms used by the military. They were put on alert last October (the Mirror reported it, too) with the expectation they would be going, but the Department of Defense today - Monday June 30, 2008, officially gave the word. Since the link in my post ...

Guard Deployment

The 56th Stryker Brigade Combat Team of the Pennsylvania National Guard’s 28th Infantry Division was called up today for deployment, probably Iraq but possibly to Afghanistan. The deployment is from January to March 2009.

I am looking to talk with any local soldiers who are a part of this and/or ...

Re: Dissolution of Snyder Twp Planning Commission

Considering the vote was made in the middle of a public meeting - and public co0mment was taken when it was opened for discussion- it was clearly within the parameters of the Sunshine Law. Unless I missed something.

metal detectors

Putting together a follow up article over the weekend and I am interested in the opinions of parents and students about the installation of the metal detectors. Feel free to give me a call at 946-7446 and leave your name and number so I can get back to you. I'm also at 684-1871, but keep in mind it ...

Upcoming Altoona Mirror article

I'm putting together a weekend story on the Ice Mountain wind turbine proposal and would like to hear from some more borough residents about their ON THE RECORD opinions on the matter. By that I mean, if you're not willing to put your name behind it, I don't want to hear it.

I'll be filing Friday ...

In Saturday's Altoona Mirror story titled “ Tyrone Teachers May Strike,” the state's collective bargaining law for school employees, Act 88, was misinterpreted by yours truly, and so the time line for a possible teacher strike was subsequently misreported by yours truly.

I've been kicking myself ...

Thanks for the ideas and keep them coming.

As for not seeing investigative reporting in the Mirror, you must have missed Jay Young's monster on vacant houses in Altoona. I seem to remember it leading to that city's council to address the problem.

As for other stories, there was my own story ...

gathering ideas for news stories

As the Altoona Mirror's beat reporter for northern Blair County, I'm always open to story ideas, especially interesting people worth profiling for our Monday Spotlight features.

After 7 years of reporting, and mostly in this beat, I'm well aware of the usual Tyrone events and happenings. But that's ...

Altoona Mirror

Good to see Fluffer Nutters get some recognition.

And as interesting as nut-based sandwiches can be, I thought I would break in on this thread to let everyone know the Altoona Mirror is launching a full website April 1. That's http://www.altoonamirror.com for those who don't know, and for those of ...

Yes

Yes, Harlow, the one and the same. I got out of dodge for Victorian Christmas...anytime there is music in the park, like last night, it's as if they are in my living room. The downtown looks good, though, with all the lights.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.

Sold

Joybeans is now owned by Brooks and Victoria Isenberg. Still great coffee, plus longer hours and expanded menu.
